On With The Business

Whoah…30 days to go.  It hardly seems possible that nearly a year has gone by, does it?  But yet, it has, and we have our passes for Summerfest in hand and are struggling to put together our schedule.  I mean, beyond “every day”.

There  is usually an Amphitheater act that I would like to see; but this year the Fest has managed to assemble a lineup that gives me a big Meh:

  • Bruno Mars
  • Lady Gaga
  • Brad Paisley
  • Luke Bryan
  • Outkast
  • One Republic
  • Dave Matthews Band
  • Zac Brown Band
  • Motley Crue/ Alice Cooper
  • Fall Out Boy/ Paramore
  • Usher

Yeah, no.  There are some other stages that have decent headliners; the Hold Steady, Head and the Heart, Joan Jett, New Order, Ziggy Marley, Best Coast.  Michael McDonald will be there for Jennifer even if she’s likely to blow it off.  Yipes, the Wigs, and the Bon Ton Society are doing reunions, and local bands like the Championship and Maritime will be playing.

As the schedule fills out, I expect I will find plenty of good stuff in the earlier time slots, and at the favorite stages:  The Cascio local band stage, the Emerging Artist series, and hopefull the guys with the Refugee stage will manage to get it together this year.

OT, but who cares?  I am disappoint that the Eels will not be swinging through Milwaukee with their tour supporting the fine new album, but look what they did:

Am I the only one that finds it kind of peculiar that when Steve Perry returns to the stage for the first time in 19 years, he does with E?  Or that he sings “It’s a Motherfucker”?

But in any case, there is a serious lack of lighters during that.

Stay tuned for more updates, news, and random half assed music blogging.  There is an Elvis Costello show we’re going to on June 10th, and I will try to post a review of the show.  Although I expect it will be magnificent, and I will love it.  Going out on a limb there, I know.

See you around.  See you at Summerfest?
